Overview
GentleStep allows you to remove connected sign-in providers without deleting your entire GentleStep account. When we receive a data deletion request from a third-party provider (like Facebook/Meta), we remove that login link and any related session tokens. Your GentleStep account and data from other sources remain intact.
Disconnect a Sign-In Provider (Data Deletion Request)
According to Facebook Platform rules, we provide this instructions page to explain how you can delete your data associated with GentleStep.
From Facebook
To remove the GentleStep app and delete its access to your Facebook data:
- Go to your Facebook Profile > Settings & Privacy > Settings.
- Navigate to Apps and Websites.
- Find GentleStep in the list of apps.
- Click Remove.
- (Optional) Select the option to delete posts, videos or events GentleStep posted on your timeline.
- Click Remove again to confirm.
Once removed, Facebook sends us a secure signed_request. We automatically:
- Permanently unlink your Facebook account from your GentleStep profile.
- Delete any active session tokens associated with that Facebook login.
- Log the deletion request for audit purposes (retaining the confirmation code).
Note: Your GentleStep account, including your taper plans and logs, is NOT automatically deleted by this action, allowing you to sign in via other methods (e.g. email) if configured. To request full account deletion, please see below.
Via Email
Alternatively, you can email [email protected] and include your account email or the provider's app-scoped ID so we can disconnect it manually.
Full Account Deletion
If you want your entire GentleStep account deleted (not just a sign-in provider), you can delete your account from the GentleStep app settings. If you need help, email [email protected].
Please note that account deletion is permanent and will remove:
- Your account profile and settings
- All tapering plans and progress history
- Notification preferences and schedules
- All connected sign-in providers
We may retain minimal billing/accounting records required by law.
Commerce/gifting: invite emails are removed, claim codes are hashed and encrypted, and Stripe subscription/payment references are kept only for billing. Commerce records are retained for up to 12 months for accounting/support and then redacted (invite email, claim codes, Stripe IDs).
Status of your Request
We typically process disconnect requests immediately. If you have a confirmation code from the Facebook removal process, you can verify it by contacting support.
Account deletions initiated in the app are processed immediately for app data. Minimal billing/accounting records may be retained as required by law.
